Romanian visa

The Romanian visa is granted by a Romanian diplomatic mission:

  1. at demand, for the aliens holding travel documents recognized by Romania, valid at least 6 months over the validity of the requested visa which was issued by the authorities of the receiving country;
  2. only with prior approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the approval will be given within 3 working days for citizens who are not those of the receiving country;
  3. only with prior approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the approval will be given within 30 working days for citizens of States with high potential of emigration.

  • simple for transport activities (symbol TR)

  • simple for unify the family (symbol VF)
  • simple for cultural activities, humanitarian or other activities which do not violate Romanian Law (symbol ZA)
  • airport transit (symbol TA)
  • simple transit (symbol TS)
  • double transit (symbol TD)

Visas are valid and entitle holders to stay in the territory of Romania for:

  1. as long as agreed through bilateral agreements with other state or on the basis of reciprocity, in the case of diplomatic and official work visas;
  2. up to 30 days in the case of simple visa for employment, business, educational activities, documentation, religious or humanitarian activities, mass-media activities or other activities which do not violate Romanian legislation; such visas may be extended in Romania for periods which shall not exceed 6 months;
  3. up to 30 days in the case of simple visa for studies; such visas may be extended in Romania for periods which shall not exceed one year;
  4. up to 60 days in the case of simple visa for tourism, visit or another personal interest; such visas may be extended in Romania for another period of 60 days;
  5. 3 days from the date of entry into Romania in the case of transit visa.

Visa can be issued for one or multiple entries.

Exceptionally, the authorities of the border police shall issue visas, symbol M, A, SP, P, TR, TS, TD, according to the law in force. Visas issued at a state border crossing point must not exceed 10 days (entry visa) and 3 days (transit visa).
