In September 2001, the Romanian Government delegates a superior police officer as liaison officer to the Embassy of Romania in Prague. His mission was to establish contacts and to set up the dialogue between the Romanian and the Czech Police in order to reduce the number of Romanian offenders and to fight all types of trans-border criminal activities.

In June 2003 the police liaison officer has been replaced by another superior police officer acting since as home affairs attaché with the Embassy of Romania in Prague.

The co-operation with the Czech Ministry of Interior and all the bodies of the Czech Police Presidium is concentrated on:

  • Fighting organized crime groups and networks;
  • Fighting trafficking in human beings;
  • Fighting illegal migration;
  • Fighting trafficking in drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors;
  • Mutual support and assistance in the filed of car thefts and trafficking of stolen motor vehicles;
  • Fighting financial crimes, laundering money and counterfeiting, as well as other proceedings as such;
  • Mutual support and assistance in the process of investigating trans-border crimes;
  • International co-operation

Due to the best co-operation, support and assistance between the Romanian and Czech police structures, the criminal activities of the Romanian citizens in Czech Republic were significantly reduced, the same result being noticed among the Czech offenders in Romania. At this time most of the common internal affairs activities are focused on prevention and quick data exchange regarding complexes and important file cases.
