Bilateral Political and Diplomatic Relations

Brief history of the diplomatic relations

Romania and former Czechoslovakia have established diplomatic relations on April 6th 1919.

In 1939, after the split of Czechoslovakia and the installation of the German protectorate over the nowadays territory of the Czech Republic, the diplomatic relations between the two countries ceased and were to be resumed on June 7th 1945.

On December 18th 1992, after the splitting of the Czech-Slovak Federation, Romania was among the first states to recognize the Czech Republic as a sovereign and independent state.

      Characterization of bilateral relations

The Romanian-Czech relations have a good development on the basis of the traditional friendly terms and solidarity between the peoples of both countries, the similarity of the fundamental options of the foreign policies, as well as a good co-operation at bilateral and multilateral levels.
