Gheorghe Tinca

Gheorghe TINCA was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania in the Czech Republic in December 2001.

Previous diplomatic career

Diplomat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1966-1994; 1996-1999).

  • Diplomatic assignments:
    - First Secretary at Romania's Mission to the UN Office in Geneva (1972-1978);

    - Member or Head of many Romanian delegations at the sessions of UN General
      Assemblies and of some other specialized UN institutions or at some other
      international meetings;
    - Member of some UN groups of experts.

Professional experience
  • Human Rights and Social Issues (1966-1972);
  • Representative of Romania at UN Economic Commission for Europe, at International Health Organization and International Telecommunications Union (1972-1974);
  • Negotiations regarding the development of the humanitarian law;
  • Disarmament negotiations at the level of Committee/Conference on Disarmament in Geneva (1974-1978);
  • Representative of Romania at the UN sessions for disarmament and for international security in New York (1982-1987);
  • Desk Officer for the relations with Canada (1987-1990);
  • Head of the International Organizations Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1991);
  • Under-Secretary of State and later State Secretary for Romania's relations with the countries in Asia, Africa, Middle East and Latin America (1991-1994);
  • Minister of National Defense (March 1994 - December 1996).
Other activities
  • Candidate for the Senate - Cluj County (1996);
  • Mayor candidate for Bucharest;
  • Founder and Honorary President of the "Manfred Wörner Association“ (1996-1999);
  • Founder of the "Central Europe Issues Magazine";
  • Founder of the "Association for a Normal Society" (November 1999).

Author of articles, interviews, studies, lectures on domestic and foreign policy, diplomatic relations, international defense and security, disarmament and international law.

Married to Ileana Rodica. Has two children: Ioana and Stefan.
Speaks fluently English and French.
